Pilates exercises: The Seal

This is one of the most popular exercises, known as the seal. With this Pilates exercise we will achieve greater flexibility in the hips, knees and spine, strengthening the abdominals and improving our overall stability. To do this exercise correctly we must sit with our legs bent and our knees away from each other, but keeping our feet together. We hold our feet with our hands, placing them below the hole that our knees leave. We bend the spine, slightly lifting the feet from the ground while keeping balance.

We now roll backwards, whilst supporting the head, and then returning to our starting position. The reason why this exercise is called the seal is that our feet touch each other, as if it were a seal clapping.
